So you want to write for Motormouth?

Ambitious. We like that. But before you fling your big idea our way, Let’s get a few things straight.

What we’re actually looking for

We're hungry for razor-sharp stories, unapologetic opinions, and profiles that dig deeper than a LinkedIn bio. Your work will grace our website and sneak into our weekly newsletter—if it's up to snuff.

Here’s what gets our motor running:

  • Rule Breakers & Rebels: Stories of brands, publications, or individuals flipping the script on tired industry norms and shaking up the marketing world.

  • Behind-the-Scenes Exposés: Q&As or mini-profiles of founders, marketers, and operators who are actually doing something different—not just talking about it.

  • Unfiltered Opinions: Thought-provoking essays and critiques on the state of brand storytelling and marketing that'll make our jaded audience sit up and pay attention.

…and what makes us hit delete:

  • Ghostwritten Drivel: Write your own stuff or don't bother.

  • Fluffy Clickbait: If it smells like a "Top 10" listicle, it's not for us.

  • Self-Promo Trash: We're not your personal marketing platform.

  • Regurgitated Nonsense: Spare us the recycled content; we can spot it a mile away.

  • Conflict of Interest Pieces: Reviews or plugs for products you're affiliated with? Nope.

  • Previously Published Work: If it's already out there, we're not interested.

How to catch our eye

When you're ready to impress us, make sure your pitch includes:

  • A working headline: Hook us in with a brief, intriguing angle.

  • Proposed word count: We like it snappy and impactful. Know your limits.

  • Proposed filing date: Tell us when you can deliver if we green-light it this week.

  • The gist: In 2-3 sentences, what's your story about, and why should our readers care?

  • Your sources: Who are you interviewing, and what are your reference points?

  • Proof you can write: Include 2-3 links to your best work. Show us you've got the chops.

What’s in it for you?

Quality writing deserves quality pay. Here's the deal:

  • Feature stories (1000+ words): Starting at AUD $750

  • Op-eds (300-500 words): Starting at AUD $500

  • Q&As (300-500 words): Starting at AUD $350
